On Saturday, at the Southern Athletics League fixture in Gillingham, Ryston’s Malcolm Tuff was in excellent form.
Tuff, pitted against runners some 30 years his junior, ran what he described as his best 1500m ever, tactically as well as in terms of overall time.
He ran 11 seconds faster than at the EVAC championship last week to erase his coach Peter Duhig’s 15-year-old record by some seven seconds.
His final time of 4.25.44 is an all-time PB for him and represents an 88.64 per cent age graded result.
Tuff, while understandably delighted with his own performance, was the first to say personal satisfaction is great, but shouldn’t take anything away from the monumental team effort.
Saturday’s excellentperformance saw the Ryston team record its fourth successive match victory.
This should surely be sufficient to secure the club promotion for next season.
Ryston Runners defeated home club Medway by some five points, as a result of many competitors covering multiple events at the meeting.
