NORFOLK BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP 2016

West Acre’s Phillip Welham won his 12th county championship when defeating the Lynn Snooker League’s Gary Norman in a high quality final which was played at Norwich’s Broadland Snooker Centre.

Welham had drawn defending and eight-times champion David Nichols (Erpingham) in the first round and had come from behind to defeat Nichols 280 (67, 52, 50)-221 (84), and then had victories over Richard Wild (Walcott) and Chris Cator (Fakenham) to reach the final.

The improving Norman recorded an excellent win over Nathan Mann (Norwich) to reach his first final.

The 60-minute final started evenly, but Welham then recorded a break of 133 (the event’s highest) to pull away. However much to Norman’s credit he then recorded two breaks in the 60’s to make it a very tight conclusion before the West Acre man prevailed.
