Beccles 2nd 0 West Norfolk Development 2nd 55
With West Norfolk’s first team having the weekend off, thanks to St Albans conceding their Senior Vase Cup match, focus switched to the Development squad as they travelled to Beccles in their cup fixture.
The game gave Wests club captain Jamie Williamson and coach Lee Parry an ideal opportunity to assess some of the up and coming talent involved in the young side.
Having pulled off a superb 12-5 victory against Beccles a fortnight ago, West were aware that they would need to put in a disciplined performance to get the better of their rivals.
In tricky conditions with the ground boggy underfoot, West gave a commanding display, scoring a hatful of tries with Craig Blackmur, Michael Rose and Rob Whiteley grabbing a brace each.
Other scorers included Ryan Walker and Harrison Rudd.
Jake Huggett celebrated his recent international cap for the England Deaf squad with a try, backed up by conversions from William Knox.
Jamie Williamson said: “The lads really put a shift in.
“They looked organised in attack and aggressive in defence.
“The set piece was extremely strong considering the poor conditions.
“So much credit should go to the players, all of whom demonstrated first class spirit and determination.
“Credit should also go to our coach, Lee Parry, who has ensured that the same approach and game plan has been adopted and executed consistently throughout the senior sides.
“It’s certainly made selection for two tough league fixtures this Saturday very difficult.”
This weekend West first XV travel to Wanstead, whilst the Development squad play host to Diss.
