West Norfolk AC athletes Abigail Rice, Nathan Smalls, James Greenhalgh and Charlie Williams competed in the National Indoor championships at the weekend.
It was the highest turnout for West Norfolk in many years and the club is immensely proud of all four who had to meet tough qualification standards just to enter this highest level of competition.
Smalls improved his PB to 7.88 in the 60m for Under 15 boys as he qualified for the semi-final. In the semi Smalls ran 8.00 to place sixth.
Also in the 60m for U15s, Williams qualified for the semi with a run of 7.78 in his heat. In the semi Williams ran a PB and club record of 7.74 for 6th. Williams also competed in the 300m, placing fourth in the semi in a time of 40.18.
U15 girl Rice was pleased to be returning to top level 60m sprinting after an injury and was just outside her PB placing seventh in 8.63.
U20 athlete Greenhalgh was in a very high quality 60m hurdles semi-final. Despite hitting the first hurdle hard Greenhalgh, who has another year in this age group, ran well for 7th in 8.75, a little outside of his PB. The athletes now return to winter training as they prepare for the outdoor track and field season following a successful indoor campaign.
