West Norfolk Colts 24

Norwich Colts 7

On a perfect day for rugby both teams turned up with the full quota of players.

Norwich had West pushed back into their own half for the first 20 minutes, however some impressive defensive work from the hosts kept them at bay. After some good pressure the visitors conceded a penalty 25 metres out.

The alert Hayden Revell took a quick tap then threaded his way through Norwich’s confused defence to open the scoring. The rest of the half consisted of aggressive running and equally aggressive tackling from both sides but no further scoring, 7-0 to West.

The second half was just as physical with the big Norwich pack running hard and straight at West only to be continually knocked back.

Some strong defence forced a turnover which Freddie Playford took full advantage of and once clear no one was going to catch him, 14-0 to West. Once again Norwich pressed hard only for West to turn them over and a clever kick over the oncoming Norwich back line was pounced on by Joe Tembo demonstrating some of his football skills to allow him to drop on the ball for West’s third try, 19-0.

Norwich’s pressure paid off when they were awarded a penalty close in and it was their turn to take advantage of West’s disorganised defence, 19-7. West finally managed to get some good ball to the backs and once again the strong running of Playford resulted in his second and West’s fourth try.

The final score did not fully reflect Norwich’s contribution and the only difference was West’s ability to finish. Although West need to work on their attacking strategies, their defence was outstanding with some superb tackling.

Man of the match: Peter Fox who seemed to be involved in everything.
