Three athletes from West Norfolk AC will represent Norfolk Schools at the English Schools National Track and Field Championship at Gateshead this weekend.
Senior athlete Megan Rushmore (Wymondham College) is in her fourth and last schools event, while Lucy Koenigsberger (KES) and Jude Falkner (Smithdon) will be competing in their first as junior girls at the International Stadium.
It is the first time in 10 years the club has had three athletes at the championships and the first time that all three will compete in the same discipline, as all three are hammer throwers.
Rushmore’s season so far has been restricted due to her studies towards her A levels.
With only three competitions behind her she has bettered the English Schools standard on all three occasions on her way to becoming both Norfolk County and Norfolk Schools champion.
Koenigsberger and Falkner, meanwhile, have had a duel between themselves all season.
Falkner’s personal best from last year was 23 metres, which she improved to 26.97 in early May.
Koenigsberger then won the Norfolk Counties title with a throw of 32.27m and a then new club record.
At the Norfolk Schools event, she increased the record to 35.79m, only for Falkner to throw 36.34m to take back the record and win the title with Koenigsberger back in second.
The following week, Koenigsberger won the Anglian Schools title with a throw of 33.13.
And at the end of last month she won the shot putt at the Eastern Counties Championships with a club record of 10.36 – a record which had stood for 26 years.
In the hammer, she enjoyed an even better day by adding five metres to her best and taking back the club record with a throw of 39.63m.
All three girls would like to thank their coaches and the club for all the help and assistance so far this season.
