Under 11 rugby

W Norfolk 45 Wisbech 45

Two evenly-matched teams played out one of the best games of the season so far.

The away team started the stronger and West’s defence held. The home team found their feet and only a last ditch tackle prevented Seb Thomas from opening the scoring.

The stalemate was broken as Joshua Leverett King found Lucas Triffitt who broke clear. Jamie Hickling ran a superb supporting line and ran in West’s first try.

Wisbech soon equalised as both teams swapped tries with the lead changing several times.

Jack Zebedee scored the first of his two tries as West opened up a slender lead. Wisbech soon hit back to end the first half all square.

Both teams continued to play good rugby as the wind picked up in the second half.

Further scores from Triffitt and Hickling looked as though it would clinch it for West but with the last play of the game Wisbech forced their way over to earn a draw.

West try scorers: Lucas Triffitt (4), Jamie Hickling (3) and Jack Zebedee (2). All the boys deserve a mention for an improved display.

Coaches’ player of the day: Henry Flint.

Rest of Wests’ squad: Euan Underwood, Haydn Allsop, Matthew Lloyd, Sam Mallett, Keaton Vincent, Daniel Ballinger, Jack Watson.
