Norfolk Cup First Round
West Norfolk under 15 65 Holt 10
Straight away West attacked the sleepy visitors’ defence and with strong play leading to a break by George Lemon which led to a score.
Holt started to play like a team with aggressive forward play. After continued phases of play Holt broke the line and scored to level the match.
This score woke Wests from their slumber and they now began to dominate especially in the scrums, winning nearly every one against the head and giving the backs a solid platform to attack the defence. Tom Hitchcock, Lemon and Jack Trundley added further tries, of which Trundley converted two. Half-time score: 24-5.
Wests kicked off the second half and with the team pulling together putting immediate forward pressure on their opponents, especially in the rucks and mauls, the forwards were dominant especially in the scrums.
Now taking the game to their opponents, from a scrum the ball moved down the back line to Brandon Robinson who with an arching run outpaced the defence to score.
Holt’s spirit remained solid but they were being dominated by powerful, fluid play. From this platform West scored further tries through Hitchcock, Lemon, Dawson Hunter, Trundley (2) and the final score from Edward Dew. Three were converted.
Holt came into the game for the final five minutes to score a consolation try from a quick lineout. A great squad performance from all the team with a competition debut from Liam Garrod.
