The Fens S.R. Federation raced from Salisbury when eight clubs sent 1,520 birds, and Wretton’s Rod and Gloria Ogden and sons had another great race.

After topping the Fed the week before from Newbury this family partnership once again had their birds on top form, winning the Fed plus seventh, eighth, 10th and 17th.

The Manning brothers were 8th followed by two birds for Paul King & Jim & Wendy Cook in 12th and 16th. Pat & Julie Royle came 14th with Shaun Ewing taking 18th and Billy Mellett in 20th.

King’s Lynn N.R.F.C. had seven members send 97 birds to Whitley Bay and were held over until the Sunday.

Reg Madder won his first race in the club when his bird took 4hrs 18 mins to fly 177 miles.

Result: 1 Reg Madder, 1206; 2 John Purcell & Sam Denton, 1137; 3 Will Byrne, 1110; 4 Her Majesty the Queen, 1109; 5 Phil & Wayne Vincent, 1078; 6 Ian Kennedy, 1029.

Gaywood FC had a new name at the top this week after the Ogdens had won the first three races with Rodney Cochrane taking the first two cards.

Result: 1, 2, 4, 6 Rodney Cochrane, 1355 (two birds), 1318, 1313; 3, 5 Rod & Gloria Ogden & Sons, 1338,1316.

New Lynn RPC had 14 lofts send 219 birds to Poole. Second win for the North Lynn lofts of the Manning brothers and son when their yearling cock bird took 3hrs 18 mins to fly 175 miles. All pools and nom won by Pat & Julie Royle.

Result: 1, 3, 5 Manning brothers & son, 1346, 1334, 1328; 2 Bluey & Leighton Boughen, 1335; 4 Roger Wells, 1332; 6 Pat & Julie Royle, 1301.

Clenchwarton (south) had six members send 87 birds to Poole. The Ogdens won their fourth race from four starts when their Janssens won the first three positions. Their winner is provisional 2nd Fed and took 3hrs 36 mins to fly 166 miles.

Result: 1, 2, 3 Rod & Gloria Ogden & Sons, 1357, 1337, 1314; 4, 5, 6 Pete and Dave Ellwood, 1289, 1285, 1264.

Wereham also raced at Poole when seven members sent 112 birds.

First win of the season for Wormegay’s Billy Mellett, when his Janssen, Van Den Bosche birds won the first four positions, and his winner took 3hrs 45 mins to fly 171 miles.
