Royal rider Zara Phillips will be one of the high profile competitors at Houghton International Horse Trials in May.

The Queen’s grand-daughter has entered Black Tuxedo in one of the classes and will be among Olympians and champions taking part in the parkland of Houghton Hall from May 22 to 25.

Zara started competitive riding again in April a few weeks after giving birth to baby Mia and this will be one of her first events with the up and coming Black Tuxedo.

The Burnham Market-based organising team is expecting a strong entry. Over 700 horses competed across the disciplines in 2013 and this year’s event is set to attract even more.

For the first year Houghton plays host to the National Under 21 Eventing Championships, as well as remaining the venue for the British leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup competition. This is a prestigious global team event run over nine legs in nine nations, and as the only British venue in the series, a healthy entry from overseas riders is guaranteed.

Alongside the main event with its dressage, show jumping and cross-country categories, there will be a raft of additional equestrian competitions.

The Norfolk Festival of Showing returns for a second year, the Norfolk Show Jumping Club is holding classes and there will be Pony Club and Inter-Schools team jumping plus combined training classes an an eventers’ grand prix.
