More Reg memories
I felt I must pay a small tribute to former Lynn Football Club manager Reg Davies.
I well remember those night matches in the E.P.I.L. and the E.A. Cup, the latter he won a hat-trick of victories in.
Not very many quiet moments in those games as we get now, something always seemed to be happening one end or the other.
Attacking, entertaining football, the defence splitting passes from Reg onto the foot of Mal Lindsay, more often than not he would score.
Not a very big man in stature but he always seemed to have the time on the ball and make the right pass, not only to Lindsay but the wingers (oh for some wingers today).
I must talk about his defence in goalkeeper and full back of Coe, Hoskins and Sharpe and the half back line of Brookes, Porter, Wright.
I believe these players were together for some seasons. Just what a team needs, stability.
There, of course, has to be a bad side and that was that FA Cup defeat at Southend of 0-9, but all in all I must say that the Reg Davies era was one of the best as far as entertaining football was concerned, yes, a sad loss.

I first saw Reg play for Southend in 1947-8. I was on holiday at my grandmother's.
The next time I saw Reg play was at The Walks in 1965, and then in 1968 when I was to meet him in person.
I was site agent for R.G. Carter Builders of Nursery Lane, South Wootton.
Reg decided to purchase a bungalow at 3 Meadow Road, I still live today at Meadow Road.
He gave me a lot of pleasure watching him play and was a lovely person to talk to.

Regarding the death of Reg Davies. My memory of Reg is when he brought the late, great Duncan Edwards's England shirt to training at The Walks.
They had swapped shirts after the England vs Wales game, not many people can say that. Rest in peace Reg!
