Classic encounter at Norfolk arena

THE first of the seasons classic banger events takes place at Lynn’s Norfolk Arena on Sunday at midday when the 1500cc Banger Icebreaker takes place.

The Icebreaker is one of Europe’s biggest banger meetings and has now got so big that it has had to be split into two with a 1500 version and an unlimited version taking place.

These events were fully-booked two months ago with both comprising of the top banger drivers in the UK.

Several of our top local teams will be in action at the Icebreaker this year, including defending champions Team Cruncher, who this year will have three teams in action. Heading the line up for the Crunchers is multi-champion Davey Cox.

Team Jackpot is another outfit likely to be challenging for top honours. The Garrod family have really moved up the points chart in season 2011 and Team Jackpot won the 2L banger East Anglian team final which took place at Lynn in September last year with a brace of wins by Terry Garrod (Swaffham) sealing the top spot for the team.

There will be two teams in action for Team Jackpot with Terry, Jack, Ashley and Ricky Garrod competing for the A team, while talented teenager Wesley Freestone (Clenchwarton) will be looking to lead the B team to victory.

Team Bash will also be in action and are a big threat to the podium positions, particularly with Jamie Childerhouse and Jason Farthing both hitting top form in their last few outings.

One of the most feared teams will undoubtedly be the crash-happy Predators and their outfit includes captain Ricky Twell and the hugely-talented Ady Groome.

Other local drivers in action include Alan Jackson, who will be racing for Cool Running, Sean Haller, who will be in action for the Mad Mob and Russell Gill, racing for Team Starky.
