A public meeting is being held tonight as part of a renewed effort to build a swimming pool in Fakenham.

Sports club members, residents and community groups are invited to attend the event, being held at Fakenham Community Centre at 7pm.

The meeting has been organised amid concerns about a lack of swimming pool facilities in the town following news that Fakenham Academy’s pool will close in July for financial reasons, while Fakenham Junior School also needs more funds to ensure its pool can remain open.

Fakenham Area Partnership has been behind a long-running campaign to bring a new pool to the town, and is hoping local people will show its support for the renewed push by attending the meeting tonight.

Janet Holdom, from Fakenham Area Partnership, said: “We want to establish the current support for a new pool and recruit people who are able to give their commitment to the cause to a new steering group to drive the project forward to the next stage.”
