Sport - Bowls: Rhys bags creditable sixth spot
Gallow Indoor Bowls Club player Rhys Morgan competed in the English Bowls Youth Development Scheme (EBYDS) National School of Excellence, at Melton & District IBC, alongside 32 of England’s best young bowlers.
Players, aged between eight and 18, qualified for the event following a series of county and regional qualifiers in the last year, having participated in a series of matches and skills tests in under 15 and 18 age groups.
Morgan’s achievement surpassed the success of club players in previous years, who managed to reach the regional stages.
He achieved a creditable sixth position in the under 15 age group and the club congratulate the player, who has played for the club men’s A team, and the county junior and senior teams.
Juniors from Gallow were also involved in the National under 25 Double rink competition, where some of the side’s more senior players were unavailable.
Away at Norfolk Bowling Club and skipped by Daniel Cawthorne, with Curtis Walters, Alex Bird and Jake Biggs completing the team, Gallow lost 25-10.
At home, Sam King’s block, with Alicia Segasby, Jarod Pitkin-Bovington and Jack Wells, lost 23-14.
Gallow thank Morrisons superstore, in Fakenham, for their continued support.
New youngsters are welcome to join the club. Call Bryan on 07921 887179 for further information.
