WEST Norfolk Swimming Club hosted its Masters Section awards at Timbers last week.
There were two different awards with Rachel Wiggans receiving the Youngman Cup for being the Senior Swimmer of the Year, and Bob Arthur receiving the coveted Wild Goose Trophy.
Bob Arthur, a sergeant in the RAF, was unable to attend the evening as he was on a course before going to the Falklands.
Committee member Don McFarlane said: “Bob works really hard. He trains regularly and is a very good influence to the young ones. He’s a good guy to have around.”
Regarding Rachel, he added: “She trains really well and competes a lot.
“Last year was her first outing in the open water and she picked up a gold medal and a gold cup. She really is a pleasure to be around.”
The swimming club now looks forward to an event in May at the UEA, where they will compete against other clubs from the East. Their focus will then be to July for the open water championship.
If you are 18+ and would like to swim in a friendly and welcoming environment then call either Don McFarlane on 01366 377340 or Tony Trayford on 01945 860022.
