WAYNE Mason lived up to his number one billing at the Lynn Table Tennis Championships during the weekend.

The number one seed defeated Gary Hewitt 1-6, 4-11, 13-11, 11-7 in the final to become Open Singles champion at Lynnsport.

In the semi-finals, Mason had overcome Alan Nicholls 11-6, 11-5, 11-4, while Hewitt had accounted for James Patterson 11-4, 13-11, 5-11, 11-9.

The initial round of the Open Singles was played in groups of five with the top two players from each group going through to the main event.

The weekend, which was well-supported by spectators, consisted of several competitions with the main events taking place on the Sunday.

Other results were as follows:

Open Plate: Semi-finals Jonathan Reavell beat Leigh McDonald 11-4, 11-8, 11-9; Daniel Deveau beat Graham Sheppard 8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6.

Final Jonathan beat Daniel 11-8, 20-18, 11-7.

Ladies Singles: Played in a round-robin format, Alex Woolley was first with Christine Woolley second, Mollie Patterson third and Eliza McDonald fourth.

Ladies Doubles: Christine Woolley/Alex Woolley beat Mollie Patterson/Eliza McDonald 2-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7.

Division One: Semi-finals Paul Barrett beat Graham Rogerson 11-2, 11-9, 12-10; Mark Pearman beat Jerry Irving 5-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-4.

Final Mark beat Paul 11-8, 11-6, 11-6.

Under 12s: Played in a round-robin format, Finlay Hewson was first with Joe Bunker second, Mollie Patterson third, Alexander Bragg fourth and Jacob Hewson fifth.

Girls’ Singles: Mollie Patterson beat Ellie Bunker 11-6, 11-4, 11-7.

Girls’ Doubles: Mollie Patterson/Sian Brundle beat Harriet McDonald/Ellie Bunker 11-1, 11-8, 11-6.

Cadet Singles: Semi-finals Karl Brown beat Ryan Hubbard 11-4, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8; Robert Penny beat Ross Brown 11-6, 11-6, 7-11, 9-11, 11-1.

Final Robert beat Karl 11-9, 11-7, 11-5.

Junior Singles: Semi-finals Robert Penny beat Ryan Hubbard 11-7, 11-7, 11-8; Karl Brown beat Ross Brown 8-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-6.

Final Robert beat Karl 12-10, 3-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-5.

Junior Doubles: Semi-finals Robert Penny/Alexander Bragg beat Ashley Starling/Ryan Hubbard 11-2, 9-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6; Ross Brown/Karl Brown beat Ryan Purvey/Ryan Haynes 11-5, 11-5, 11-7.

Final Ross/Karl beat Robert/Alexander 11-6, 11-6, 11-5.

Over 50s: Semi-finals Mike Crowson beat John Blyth 11-4, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8; Alan Nicholls beat Richard Mussett 11-4, 13-11, 11-8.

Final Alan beat Mike 11-9, 9-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9.

Over 60s: Played in a round-robin format, Dave Attridge was champion with Alan Jones second and Graham Sheppard third.

Veterans: Semi-finals Alan Nicholls beat Richard Mussett 11-5, 11-7, 11-9; Mike Crowson beat Dave Attridge 12-10, 9-11, 15-17, 11-8, 11-8.

Final Mike beat Alan 8-11, 11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 12-10.

Men’s Doubles: Semi-finals Mike Crowson/Owen Turner beat John Blyth/Alan Nicholls 13-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-7; Chad Bassett/Gary Hewitt beat Wayne Mason/Peter Pegg 11-5, 11-8, 11-4. Final Chad/Gary beat Mike/Owen 11-9, 11-13, 11-6, 11-6.

Mixed Doubles: Final Alex Woolley/Gary Hewitt beat Mollie Patterson/James Patterson 11-6, 11-2, 11-4.

Ernie Mastin: Semi-finals Paul Barrett beat Daniel Deveau 42-41 (Paul’s 3rd 42-41 win on way to final); Grant Brightey beat Chad Bassett 42-35.

Final: Grant beat Paul 42-28.

Parker Doubles: Semi-finals: Jonathan Reavell/Daniel Deveau beat Paul Barrett/Chad Bassett 42-32; Wayne Mason/Dave Attridge beat Mike Cooper/Graham Keeley 42-31.

Final Jonathan/Daniel beat Wayne/Dave 42-38.

The Neil Pearman Memorial Award, for outstanding individual performance of a Superblades junior coaching player, was presented to Ross Brown.
