Rugby: Maule and Steele star in destructive display from West
West 2nds 65 Watton 3
THREE tries apiece for Maule and Steele carried West to a destructive 65-3 victory over Watton.
Steele opened the scoring with one of his scintillating runs down the left and Maule soon added another.
Watton managed to get a penalty in front of West’s posts which they converted quite comfortably to score their only points of the game.
Watton applied the pressure and pinned the home side in their own 22 for a good few minutes, but Tuck and Carver managed to stop the away team accumulating any more points with some fine try saving tackles.
Maule started to boss the game and made a break from his own try line which led to five phases of play with almost all of the West players involved.
Fysh could have scored but unselfishly passed to Turnip, who put the ball under the posts.
Edris then converted the extra points with a drop-kick.
Straight from the kick off West caught the ball and passed freely until it ended in the arms of Edris, who danced over the try line with Watton players left in his wake.
Maule, McNaught and Steele secured another try each before the break with the home side going in 41-3 up at half-time.
West continued their dominance at the start of the second half and Brundle went over for a well-deserved try.
After Bridges was sin binned for retaliation, West played with even more determination and Fysh, Maule and Steele rounded off the rout for the home side.
An exceptional team performance resulted in a 65-3 final scoreline.
The Tulip Man-of-the-Match was Adam Steele.
