Swaffham 0 West Norfolk 88

THIS fixture was a complete mismatch as Swaffham failed to cope with the strong running West team.

However, there were some promising signs from some of West’s newer members, with Christian scoring the opening try – which was his first for the club – and Julius scoring a brace on his first appearance.

A big thank you to all at Swaffham, as despite the heavy defeat the lads kept going until the final whistle.

Ely v West Norfolk

ELY were runaway winners in the first game with the final score 6-2 in their favour.

Game two produced a 4-4 draw. Freddie Fairey led the way with three tries, with Ryan Batten scoring the fourth.

The final game was an excellent team performance from West and produced the best open play moment of the season so far.

Freddie picked it up and covered half the pitch. He was tagged and found Edward Mellor in support,

Edward continued the forward momentum before being tagged himself. He passed to Ryan who made quick ground before passing to Charlie Osborne–Smith, who finished off the move with a try. This as well as Felix Young (2), two more for Charlie and Freddie produced a 6-4 win.

The coaching staff awarded the day’s performance medal to Raven Wales.

Ely 7 West Norfolk 14

THE visitors came out narrow victors in a close first game against Ely.

West started slowly and went a converted try down in the first half. They turned it around with the forwards gaining ground, which allowed Louis Jones to score in the corner. This was converted by Jack.

They battled on from the restart, scoring again very quickly through a converted try by Jack Trundley.

Ely 14 West Norfolk 7

IN the second game Ely avenged the previous defeat to win by the same scoreline as the first match.

Ely scored two converted tries in the first-half, putting West behind for the second game running.

West were unable to fight back fully, but did score a converted try through Jack Trundley once again. They may have lost but a draw would probably have been a more accurate reflection of the game.

Ely 14 West Norfolk 14

WEST put in a tremendous battling display to ensure honours were even in Ely.

Archdale prevented an early score for the hosts with a saving tackle.

A period of Ely pressure led to them taking the lead, but the visitors’ response was immediate. Driving deep into the Ely half, the ball was finally ripped by Mott, who went over to score.

A lack of concentration at the restart ensured that Ely went into half-time with their lead re-established.

The second-half saw a stronger performance. Some sustained pressure paid dividends when Archdale went over after a fine break from Otis.

Penston almost won it for West with a fantastic 60-yard dash, which was stopped a few yards short of the try line.
