Sport - Rugby: West lose following a promising opening
Wymondham 38 West 17
A PROMISING start by West was overturned as Wymondham gained the advantage and took the points.
Anderson opened the scoring with a determined break to the try line.
West held their territory and with some powerful rucking from Edris, Leggett and Overton, Tucker demonstrated his agility by squeezing through a gap in the Wymondham defence to make it 10-0.
A lapse in concentration saw Wymondham intercept for a try.
Despite the conditions, the forward clashes were dominated throughout the game by the West pack making good ground for the back-line to launch their offensive play.
This led to Anderson scoring his second try, duly converted by Flux.
West held the score for the first-half thanks in part to try-saving tackles by Voutt, Huy and Otis.
Unfortunately, West could not hold their grip in the second-half and Wymondham, changing players and tactics, came back fighting.
The host’s quickly gained two converted tries.
West continued to steal moments of glory, with Anderson gaining his hat-trick and Croxford blocking a Wymondham clearance attempt.
Fresh legs in the form of Bailey, Lawrence, Horn and McDonald gave West new impetus but it was not enough to gain lost ground as Wymondham put more points behind them.
Suffering only their second defeat of the season, the under 15s now prepare for the Norfolk Cup quarter-final against North Walsham, at Gatehouse Lane, on Sunday.
Kick-off is at 11am and all spectators are welcome.
