The King’s Lynn Stars have revealed that club captain Rory Schlein is set to return to their Elite League side next week.
The Stars have re-declared their team to the BSPA, and subject to approval Schlein will make his comeback in Monday’s televised fixture at Coventry, replacing previous skipper Mads Korneliussen.
Schlein has been sidelined for nearly three months with a serious shoulder injury, sustained ironically in a crash when the Stars met the Bees at the Adrian Flux Arena on April 13.
But he is now fully fit and has been back on a bike with practice sessions on his home track, which also included a test meeting earlier this week, and he has also ridden on the circuit for this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Cardiff.
The effect of the change is that Schlein will slot into the Stars team as a heat-leader, meaning Troy Batchelor will move to a second-string role under new averages effective from Monday.
The club would like to place on record their thanks to Korneliussen for his efforts this season.
Korneliussen is a victim of speedway’s ‘numbers game’ with the Stars feeling the recall of their club captain and asset is very much a necessity, and this was the only realistic way of making the move.
