Smith back At The Walks

FORMER fans favourite Adam Smith yesterday became the latest part of Lynnmanager Keith Webb's Blue Square North masterplan.

Utility-player Smith (22, right) returned to The Walks for his third spell with the club after having the remainder of his two-year contract cancelled by League One Peterborough.

On his latest acquisition, Webb said: “Adam will give more balance to the squad with cover at left back, on the left side and in the middle.

“Having had long talks with Adam, I am convinced we will see something of the old Adam Smith, as he performed during his first spell at the club.

“He knows what my thoughts were during his second spell and I am convinced he will be an asset to the club.”

A statement on the Peterborough United website yesteday morning read: “Peterborough United have cancelled the contract of defender Adam Smith by mutual consent to allow the youngster to rejoin former club Lynn.

“Smith had two years to run on his current deal. The club would like to thank Adam for his efforts and wish him well for the future.”

Smith was limited to just five first-team appearances, four as substitute, at London Road and his first season at Posh was hindered by injury problems.

Last season saw Smith briefly shipped out to the Linnets, before a longer loan spell with Boston United in the Conference North.

Smith’s arrival has seen Steve Melton released by the club, who thank the midfielder for all of his efforts at The Walks.

Meanwhile, three up-and-coming youngsters have put pen to paper on Conference forms as the Linnets look to the future and secure three players who they hope will play a big part in the club’s future days.

Ross Kelly, Elliot Fiddy and Dom Dwyer have all put pen-to-paper on Conference forms.

Smith and the fit-again Jon Turner, who has recovered from a dead leg, are both added to the squad for tomorrow’s difficult trip to Stalybridge Celtic.

On the game Webb said: “I want the players to be confident, which they should be as we are unbeaten this season and three points off of fourth place.

“Stalybridge are expected to be one of the teams pushing for promotion so I’m expecting a difficult game but on our day we are capable of beating anyone.”

Webb hit back at some recent criticism on the club’s website, saying: “People seem to forget that it’s now 27 games since we last lost a league game and when did that last happen at the club?

“We’re not playing football like Arsenal or Real Madrid but the players are giving 100 per cent and are committed on pushing us up the table.

“It’s alright playing football, but you’ve got to compete with teams in this league and that’s what we’ve done well so far.”

Sables are running a supporters minibus to Stalybridge Celtic and have a few places left.

Leaving the ground at 9am, the cost is 20 for adults and 15 for children. Call Steve Bland on 07776 1242801 to book your place.

Stats from Lynn’s game with Hinckley, Monday, Lynn first: shots on target 3, 2; off target 5, 4; corners 2, 3; offside 4, 4; free-kicks 12, 21.

Lynn will be the last side ever to visit Fenland Park, Wisbech on Monday, September 15 for the Mark Jimson testimonial when Lynn will take on a side selected by Jimson. Admission is adults 5 and concessions 3.

For the rest of the season Wisbech will play their home games at Outwell.
