PREMIER TROPHY: Lynn Stars 63 Newport 31

MAXIMUMS for skipper Tomas Topinka and Chris Schramm helped secure another big win for Lynn Stars on Wednesday – helping propel the side back to the top of the Premier Trophy southern group.

And all night they were also looking for their team-mates to make life as difficult as possible for a gritty Newport outfit which struggled early on and then featured in some excellent heats.

As team manager Rob Lyon pointed out: "There was some good racing and I was pleased to see some of the Newport riders going for it and attacking the track.

"For us, it was encouraging to see Christian (Henry) getting going and he had his best meeting for us.

"But all the boys chipped in and Chris Schramm looked really fast for his paid maximum . . . and long may it continue.

Schramm added: "It's going really well and with Christian making some good starts we had a couple of good 5-1s tonight."

Ace reserve Darcy Ward, who scored 20 points when Lynn won easily at Newport recently, made another bright start but was then pipped in a couple of tight races.

Lynn had again started like an express, going 28-10 clear after just six races – and in that initial flurry, Schramm saw off Mark Lemon's tactical ride in Heat 5.

But in the middle section of the match Newport came into their own and Chris Kerr had a brilliant win in Heat 8 when finding a gap off the final bend between Ward and Darren Mallett.

Emiliano Sanchez topped that for excitement in Heat 11 when he burst through from the back to split the team riding of Lemon and tactical man Kerr before diving hard under Kerr to hit the front on the last lap.

Lynn Stars: Tomas Topinka 13+2 (5 rides), Kozza Smith – rider replacement, Christian Henry 9+1 (4 rides), Chris Schramm 14+1 (5 rides), Emiliano Sanchez 10+1 (4 rides), Jan Graversen 4+2 (4 rides), Darcy Ward 8+1 (4 rides), Darren Mallett 5+1 (4 rides).

Newport: Mark Lemon 7+1 (4 rides), Chris Kerr 8 (5 rides), Paul Fry 8 (5 rides), Brent Werner 1+1 (4 rides), Jordan Frampton 2 (4 rides), Kyle Newman 1 (4 rides), James Holder 4 (4 rides).

Tonight, the Lynn Stars are at Scunthorpe in the Premier Trophy.

Tomorrow night the Lynn Barracudas travel to Rye House for a National League fixture.
