Sport - Speedway: New league for young Stars riders?
LYNN Stars are looking into the possibilities of joining the Midland Development League.
The league has been given official status by the BSPA and will start its second season with at least seven clubs.
Coventry-Mercia, Halifax, Milton Keynes, Scunthorpe, Sheffield and Stoke have already declared their intention to join inaugural champions Long Eaton, while King’s Lynn are exploring the possibilities of joining the league along with competing in the Anglian Junior League.
League administrator Kelvin Lapworth said: “Along with the amateur meetings around the country the leagues will fill the gap between practice and the National League, and having just one league rider in the side will give the others someone to measure themselves against.
“There was some uncertainty about the nomadic clubs but Long Eaton, Halifax and Milton Keynes have been approved and it is great that we will have seven or eight teams to start the season. We’ve put development in the league title and the more teams that are running the more opportunities there are going to be for up-and-coming riders.”
The King’s Lynn Roger Warnes Transport Stars fixture on Good Friday, April 6, away to local rivals Peterborough will now start at a new time of 2pm due to other events at the East of England Showground. Both teams make their way to the Norfolk Arena for the return meeting at 7pm that night.
