This season the King’s Lynn Stars will be well looked after off-track after club officials agreed a deal with Peterborough based sports therapist, Lauren Wood.
Wood has five years’ experience with semi-professional football, currently working with Peterborough United in League One providing sports massage, Cambridge city FC as head sports therapist, and Peterborough Panthers speedway as head sports therapist, specialising in injury rehabilitation and sports trauma.
This season, if required, any of the Stars squad will be able to receive treatment during home meetings in a new treatment room located at the Adrian Flux Arena. Club chief Buster Chapman believes it’s the way forward with modern-day riders changing their approach to the sport.
Chapman said: “In modern speedway the riders take so much care and attention towards their fitness and nutrition. They are professional athletes and should be treated in the same way. We have taken a step towards helping them this season by bringing in Lauren.
“With Rory coming back from such a serious injury and Troy also suffering from injury, we felt it was a sensible move. Lauren jumped at the chance, and we are pleased she has agreed to be a part of the back room team.”
On joining the Stars, Wood said: “I am really looking forward to the step up and the extra challenge being involved in the Elite League whilst working in the Premier League with Peterborough. It is a great feeling to be chosen and thought highly of enough for such a position and I cant wait until the new season begins. I can provide the same injury service I have for the past season at Peterborough and really focus on getting riders fit to race following any injuries.”
