Stars wary of sting in tail

TOMORROW evening the Newport Wasps return to Lynn to race the Stars in the Premier Trophy.
This will be their first visit since June 2007 after the club came to a grinding halt in 2008 due to the unfortunate death of their late owner, Tim Stone.
The Stars have now completed exactly half of their 12 qualifying matches for the Premier Trophy and are sitting in third place in the Southern table, two points behind joint leaders Scunthorpe and Rye House.
Team boss Rob Lyon sees this meeting as a chance to take control of the club’s fate in the competition. He said: “Three trophy points are up for grabs if we can beat the Wasps by more than six points on the night.
“That would leapfrog us to the top and I want the team to see that opportunity and grab it with both hands.
“After last week’s powerhouse performance against Somerset I have had fans asking me if we can give the away team some sort of advantage, but in all honesty why should we?
“I find it a real pleasure to see our team riding so well and taking the competition to pieces, everyone fears us and if we were to take it easy on someone we might get caught out.
“I keep the team focused on winning every single race and racing for every single point... even if we are leading by 20 points or so.
“In all honesty, I don’t think the amount we win by affects the racing in any way.
“It might make a difference psychologically by making it look closer and more exciting on paper but with riders like Darcy Ward and Emiliano Sanchez in the team the numbers are irrelevant.
“They are pure entertainment whether leading the race from the front or chasing from the back!”
The Wasps are led by former Australian international, Mark Lemon, a rider who can goes well round the Saddlebow Road track.
He is backed up by rising British star Jordan Frampton, who recorded a breathtaking maximum at Poole in the Elite League last Wednesday and will be keen to show his worth to the Great Britain team manager, Lyon.
Young American, Chris Kerr is also in the line up after a winter transfer from Redcar, a rider that never gives up and whom has thrilled the fans on former visits to Lynn.
Brother of Elite League star Chris Holder, James Holder, rides at reserve alongside Kyle Newman.
Stars promoter, Buster Chapman, believes the Wasps deserve some respect in case anyone was thinking of writing them off just yet: “I know we won away at Newport last Sunday but they will not come here and just roll over.
“You have to expect the unexpected.
“Heat 7 for example will see Kerr and Fry up against Sanchez and Graversen. I certainly wouldn’t want to take a bet on who will win it.”
Lynn are set to announce a new team sponsor at tomorrow’s meeting.
