Ward through to World U21 final
LYNN Stars' teenage sensation Darcy Ward is through to the World Under 21 final.
Ward booked his place in the final, in Croatia in October, after a tough semi-final in Hungary on Saturday night.
Ward will spearhead the Lynn challenge after finishing joint-third, while Lynn's Swedish rider Linus Eklof will be first reserve after losing a run-off against Michal Mitko.
Teenage sensation Ward returned a paid 12 from five rides and was the only rider to beat eventual winner Tai Woffinden all night.
Both Ward and Eklof will be part of the Lynn Stars' team that takes to the track against a Lynn Legends side in the Ashley Jones Memorial meeting at the Norfolk Arena tomorrow night.
The original fixture, in memory of the former Lynn rider who was tragically killed in Australia back in 2005, was washed out back in May.
Stars' team boss Rob Lyon said: "Every season Buster tries to think of a fitting way to celebrate Ashley's life and time with us, and this season is by far the most exciting idea he has ever come up with.
"On paper you have two very-balanced teams and the legends team is packed full of track specialists.
"It will be fascinating to see how riders like Olly and Kevin do against Darcy and it is difficult to pick a winner."
In a slight twist to a regular 15-heat format an extra nominated race has been added and each team will feature eight riders instead of the usual seven.
The Stars remain at full-strength with both Kozza Smith and Tomas Topinka returning after recent injury setbacks.
At number eight there will be the addition of young 16-year-old Australian rider Todd Kurtz.
With Troy Batchelor (injured) and Shane Parker (other commitments) both missing from the original Legends side, Olly Allen, who finished top of the Lynn Average back in 2005, and Rusty Harrison come into the side.
Arlo Bugeja, one of Ashley's close friends, comes in at number eight.
An exciting-looking Legends line-up is completed by Kevin Doolan, Adam Allott, Simon Lambert, Chris Mills and Darren Mallett.
Stars (52.44): 1 Darcy Ward 9.21, 2 Linus Eklof 7.00, 3 Emiliano Sanchez 6.81, 4 Chris Schramm 8.39, 5 Tomas Topinka 9.07, 6 Kozza Smith 5.38, 7 Jan Graversen 3.58, 8 Todd Kurtz 3.00.
