Redcar 43 Lynn Stars 47
THE Lynn Stars did their first double of the season with their second win over Redcar in the space of 24 hours.

Kevin Doolan broke the track record in Heat 5 when recording 54.3 seconds and beating James Grieves and Josh Auty.

The Stars won the meeting despite their two big guns Doolan and Tom Topinka each failing to win their final three races.

Stars team manager Rob Lyon said: "I said to the boys if we want to win the league, you've got to be winning at places like these.

"It was a good team performance, and it's starting to come together now.

"We did enough to do the job, and it's pleasing to see everyone chipping in with important points.

"It was funny that Kevin took the track record off Tom, who did it a couple of weeks ago while riding for Edinburgh.

"Kevin had problems with his bike at the end of the meeting."

Doolan and Shaun Tacey had taken a 4-2 from the opening run-out, but Redcar levelled when Kozza Smith fell and was excluded from the re-run.

In Heat 7, Simon Lambert went through the tapes and was excluded, and was replaced by John Oliver in the re-run, which went 4-2 thanks to a Topinka win, and left it 23-19 to Lynn.

Tacey/Smith got a 5-1 in Heat 8 to create an eight-point gap, and the hosts did not come close until Heat 13 when the Bears got a maximum of their own.

But Smith got a crucial win in the penultimate heat as the final two outings were shared.

Heat 15 saw ex-world champion Gary Havelock go from last to first to beat Topinka and Doolan.

Lyon added: "We dominated it from Heat one. They did make a comeback, and them getting a 5-1 in Heat 13 was a blow.

"Heat 14 on paper looked strong for Redcar compared to some, but our boys did the business, which put the pressure off as we needed only two points from Heat 15.

"It would've been a travesty had we lost. We'd done it before, throwing points away late on, and we were unlucky to lose at Sheffield.

"We just want to keep winning away from home and picking up the home wins.

"The boys are getting a lot of guest bookings. They're seeing they're on some false averages at the moment, and it keeps them match-fit.

"There are a lot of wacky results going on.

"It made it sweeter as Edinburgh got beaten quite heavily at Sheffield.

"I can't see Reading being a major problem, and it looks like Edinburgh, Somerset, Workington and ourselves will be fighting for the title.

"We were unlucky that Edinburgh caught us early-season and won here. Edinburgh wouldn't be able to beat us at home if they came here now.

"We've yet to meet Somerset home and away, and we've taken the majority of the points off Workington.

"It looks like an exciting league so far."

Redcar: Havelock 14 (5 rides), Mckinna 0 (3), Grieves 10 (5), R/R, Proctor 11+1 (6), Auty 5+2 (7), Bugeja 3 (4).

Lynn: Doolan 9+1 (5), Tacey 7 (4), Topinka 12 (5), Lambert 2+1 (3), Harrison 6 (4), Oliver 5+2 (5), Smith 6+2 (4).
