LYNN Stars' speedway rider Simon Lambert has just returned from the Czech Republic after making his debut on the international circuit on Saturday.
The 19-year-old said he was "very pleased and proud" to be asked to ride for Great Britain's Young Lions team in the Under 21s World Championships in Pardubice, Czech Republic.

Lambert said: "I am disappointed I failed to score in four rides, but was on the pace in each ride.

"As it was a last minute call-up due to Adam Roynon's injury I really did not have the time to prepare the engines for the large tracks.

"It's also different material they use over there, different shale. Lynn's track has got a bit of clay in it.

"It's all part of growing up and learning in the speedway industry."

Lambert got a telephone call from GB team boss Graham Reeve after midnight on the previous Saturday asking if he could replace Roynon, who broke his leg riding at Rye House.

He added: "I was always there and thereabouts, but I wasn't quick enough at the start.

"I could have been second or third in some races, but ended up last.
"They were pleased with me when they spoke to me afterwards.

"They said I know what to expect next year if I have a Test match.

"In the time I had to get ready I did OK and didn't make an idiot of myself.

"They usually get a crowd of 1,000, but there was a little thunderstorm which frightened a few of them off.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, did my best, and thank Graham Reeve for giving me the opportunity."

Lambert followed it up by top-scoring with 10+2 for Boston on Sunday night in a 51-43 victory against Redcar in the Conference League KO Cup.
Scores: Sweden 41, Czech Republic 38, Great Britain 36, Russia 35.

Lynn Stars v Redcar in the Premier League takes place at the Norfolk Arena tonight (Wednesday, June 11).

Parade at 7.30pm.
