Speedway: Lyon rallies stars
LYNN Money Centre Stars' boss Rob Lyon has issued a rallying call ahead of tonight's crucial KO Cup clash against the Reading Racers at the Norfolk Arena.
The Stars go into the second leg trailing the Racers by 25 points.
But Lyon said: "It wasn't a bad result considering the big hole we were left with after losing Kevin Doolan in his second race.
"It meant that in his three remaining races he could only be replaced by one of the reserves.
"And after witnessing our two performances at Edinburgh and Berwick I am confident that the whole team can pull together and achieve what most people have written us off to do."
The Stars are dreaming of winning the KO Cup for a fourth consecutive year – a feat no other speedway club in the UK has ever achieved before and co-promoter Buster Chpaman has told the club's loyal fans that the team will not go down without a fight.
Lynn can also take inspiration from the fact that the team has only lost once on aggregate in the past three seasons.
Co-promoter Jonathan Chapman said: "What the team needs right now is as much support as possible.
"I want the fans to get right behind every single Lynn rider in every single race and make as much noise as possible.
"To help do that we have subsidised the price of air horns – for this week only – for only £2 (limited to one per person), so I expect to sell out and hope to hear the place buzzing."
Reading boss Malcolm Holloway has warned his side that Lynn will still pose a threat at the Norfolk Arena tomorrow – despite the Racers holding a big advantage in the cup-tie.
Holloway said: "The tie is by no means over yet, though, as Lynn are the kind of side who can overwhelm some sides at their raceway.
"We will be impressing on our boys just what they have to do there on Wednesday."
With Kevin Doolan still out of action for up to another three weeks with a trapped nerve in his back, the Stars have received a massive pre-match boast ahead of the cup tie by securing the services of Elite League rider, Billy Janniro.
"Billy was our first choice after he captained the Coventry Bees through to their amazing aggregate win against the Poole Pirates on Friday night," said Lyon.
The Stars had hoped to use Shane Parker again, until the Aussie broke his collarbone and wrist in the opening heat of Saturday's clash at Berwick.
Lynn drew the meeting 45-45 and team boss Lyon said: "If we hadn't have lost Shane there's no doubt we would have gone on and won the meeting."
Twenty four hours earlier, the Stars suffered a 54-39 Premier League defeat at Edinburgh.
