THE Lynn Stars are looking for maximum league points when they race the Redcar Bears at home tomorrow and away just 24 hours later.
Five league points are on offer over the two meetings – these points would push the Money Centre Stars to third position in the Premier League table.

After seeing his team hit form against Workington last Wednesday, promoter Keith Chapman is carrying a lot of confidence.

He said: "I feel we are now starting to see what this team is really capable of.

"We are definitely going for the league title but we can't afford any slip ups as Workington, Edinburgh and Somerset have all been performing well lately.

"Hopefully we can do the same sort of job we did against the Comets last week, and carry that form on the following night."

The tenth-place Redcar team is captained by former world champion, Gary Havelock, who is partnered at heat leader position by Scottish international, James Grieves.

The Bears have had a mixed season of fortunes with multiple injuries affecting them, but they have still managed one away win and a draw.

The Stars should be wary of the Bears with British Under 21 finalist, Josh Auty, currently riding at reserve.

Stars team manager, Rob Lyon, explained why: "With Josh the Redcar management have the flexibility of putting him in seven out of the 15 races.

"There is no doubt he has the potential to be their trump card. In this scenario it would be interesting to see how he goes against some of our younger riders such as Kozza, John Oliver and Simon Lambert."

Parade starts at 7.30pm with first race at 7.45pm.

DISAPPOINTMENT

Co-promoter Jonathan Chapman expressed his disappointment at the line up for the Premier League Best Pairs competition.

Looking through the list of the nine qualifying teams, plus the wild card entry, it seems that the Stars team name has been missed off it.

The Best Pairs is at Somerset on Friday, June 27 – the night before the British Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Chapman said: "This season's qualification was decided on the results from Heat 15 in the Premier Trophy qualifying rounds.

"That is a fair idea and one I came up with myself. The only problem is Lynn are still to race their final Trophy meeting at Birmingham, where everybody else has completed theirs.

"Currently we are sitting on 13 points, and as far as I am aware this is only a point or two off the lowest qualifying team.

"Even so, if the BSPA decided it wasn't in the best interest for that to be taken into consideration then I would expect it be in the best interests of the competition to have two of the Premier League's top riders such as Tomas Topinka and Kevin Doolan competing in it, and therefore Lynn being nominated the wild card?"
