PREMIER LEAGUE
STARS team boss Rob Lyon was left cursing his side's luck after they failed to pick up the victory they needed to go top of the table at the weekend.
Lyon saw his side narrowly lose 46-43 at Scunthorpe, before a 45-45 draw at Stoke and said: "It can be a cruel sport in many ways as we all know and our results on the road last weekend did certainly not do justice to the way the team rode and worked as a unit at both Scunthorpe and Stoke.

"We wanted six points and came away with one, but lady luck was definitely not on our side and we could easily have come away with all six points.

"That was not to be, however, but we will keep battling away to secure as many points as we can and see where it takes us.

"One thing is for sure we are proving once again what good box office business we are on our travels, which I wish we could say the same about some of our opponents at the Norfolk Arena at times."

Stoke 45 Lynn Stars 45

A LAST-race engine failure for Kevin Doolan blew Lynn's chances of hitting top spot on Saturday night.

Lynn were set for a 5-1 in the last, with the scores level going into the race, but Doolan slowed dramatically going into the third turn.

The home pairing of Ben Barker and Andrew Moore did their best to chase down Tomas Topinka, but the Lynn skipper clung on in a 3-3.

Mainly thanks to the efforts of Doolan, Lynn found themselves 17-13 up after heat five.

But like Lynn's previous meeting at Scunthorpe 24 hours earlier, the action was nip-and-tuck all of the way.

Topinka claimed his first race on the night in Heat 12 and going into the penultimate heat there was nothing to split the two teams with the scores locked at 39-all.

Lynn's Smith made a brilliant start, followed by Jesper Kristiansen and Simon Lambert with Jakobsen trailing.

But Lambert drifted coming out of the final turn and Jakobsen came through to bag third spot as the heat spoils were shared.

Stoke: R. Fisher 8, M. Burrows 3, B. Barker 10+1, J. Kristiansen 2, A. Moore 12+1, B. Evans 0, K. Jakobsen 10+2.

Lynn: K. Doolan 10+1, S. Tacey 4+2, T. Topinka 10+2, S. Lambert 5+1, R. Harrison 6, J. Oliver 1+1, K.
