LYNN Stars' teenage Australian Speedway sensation, Darcy Ward, completed his 12th speedway match of 2009 on Wednesday and has now officially registered an average of 9.35, excluding bonus points.
Ward, just turned 17, said: "It has been an amazing start to my career and to be honest I haven't really worried too much about my average.
"I've settled in nicely to my new home at the stadium and have just been having fun and taking every race as it comes.
"I don't really care about who I'm up against but I always try and look out for my own team mates, especially Tomas Topinka because I know he's getting old and needs looking after!
"I'm now looking forward to the rest of the year. I have some trophies to win with King's Lynn, big matches in Poland, the World Under 21 Championships and hopefully some guest bookings in the Elite League."
Going through the record books Ward appears to have the highest debut average ever achieved by a rider, and is definitely the best performing debutant that Lynn have ever had.
Ward is also one of the youngest riders to have ever achieved such a high average. Ward's average including bonus points is 10.25.
