A YOUNG man who combines sporting, artistic and academic strengths is Jacob Marshall-Grint.
He has been nominated for a Super Kids award by his mother who said Jacob's broad range of sporting achievements included representing Norfolk in badminton, hockey, triathlon, golf and swimming.

In badminton, Jacob (12), of North Wootton, represents Norfolk in under-13 level and is a county champion. He is a member of Lynn Warriors and swims in under-11s and under-13s in national competitions. He belongs to Lynn's Pelicans hockey club, playing at under-11 and under-13 level, and has made the under-14 county squad.

Jacob plays rugby for West Norfolk RFC under-12s and football for his school and a local team. He also enjoys tennis, recently reduced his golf handicap by 14 shots, plays cricket for club and school teams and has now taken up a new challenge – judo.

Three more unusual events in which Jacob excels are the triathlon, biathlon and aquathon. In 2007, he was Norfolk and Suffolk under-13 boys triathlon champion. He made the top 20 in the national schools biathon (swim, rest, run) finals in 2006 and 2007. He is also the top boy in his age group in Norfolk in the triathlon (swim, cycle, run) and aquathon (swim, run).

Jacob is a keen gymnast and dancer. Mrs Marshall-Grint said: "His interest in movement has grown from early gymnastics to boys' regional elite and national level tumbling. He dances at grade 6 in ballet and modern dance and grade 3 in tap."

Mrs Marshall-Grint said well-balanced Jacob had a wide range of academic success and enjoyed all forms of creative studies, especially music.

"He has demonstrated a natural talent in violin (grade 3), piano (grade 3), descant recorder (grade 2), folk guitar and clarinet. He is a member of West Norfolk Intermediate Strings and plays in various county string ensembles."

Jacob even finds time for scouting activities, including playing in the musical band, she added.
