A SOUTH Wootton teenager who always puts his family first and never complains has been nominated for a Super Kids personal achievement award.
Daniel Taylor, also a keen scout and young leader, has been put forward by his cousin, Cassie Knight, who described him as "a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin."

She said: "At 16, he is mature beyond his years, showing consideration, enthusiasm and passion for the things he holds close."

Daniel's life had been harder than that of most of his peers, said Miss Knight. His sister, Nikki, who is 13 months younger, was diagnosed with autism at an early age and is a pupil at Ethel Tipple School, Fairstead.

"Daniel has grown up with Nikki taking priority in the family, dictating holidays, day trips and and family activities due to her lack of communication skills and special needs," said Miss Knight.

Daniel, a pupil at Lynn's King Edward VII School, had embraced Nikki's special qualities and helped to support her and the rest of his family, including nine-year-old sister Jodie.

"Nikki is now suffering from fits meaning a recent family holiday was cut short after only two hours in the car, but Daniel's loyalty and protectiveness towards his sister grew stronger," she said.

Always a keen scout, Daniel is now a young leader for the 7th Lynn Scout Group. "He is a natural leader and a great role model. He never gives up, is enthusiastic and has a fantastic way of encouraging the children to learn new skills without dictating to them," said Miss Knight.

Within the pack, he played a major role in organising meetings, leading young cubs and assisting with camps and jamborees. At Sandringham last year, Daniel stayed an extra night to guard camp equipment, despite the camp being cancelled due to heavy rain.

"I think Daniel deserves a Super Kids award for his commitment to his family and the scouting world. I am proud to call him my cousin," said Miss Knight.
