TALENTED young sailor Fergus Barnham is heading for world competition for the second year running.
Fergus (15), of North Wootton, is a pupil at Lynn's King Edward VII School. He has been nominated for a Super Kids sports award by the assistant head, Paul Tebay.

In the 2006/2007 sailing season, Fergus was selected for the Great Britain team of 26 sailors to train over the winter period. In that season, he managed to rank 12th in the squad and third in his age group.

Mr Tebay said: "When the competitions came round, he did very well and finished fifth in his age group at the nationals. Fergus also did well in some other events in the nationwide ladder and finished fourth overall in his age group," said Mr Tebay.

Fergus was then selected to go to the World Championships on Lake Garda, Italy, and came 14th in his age group.

"This year, Fergus was selected for the International Topper Class Association Youth Squad (National) and has been picked to go to the World Championships again, this time in Ireland," said Mr Tebay.

Apart from his commitment to sailing, Fergus also plays rugby for KES and West Norfolk and football and cricket for KES.

Mr Tebay said: "Recently, he travelled to Beijing with a party of students from KES taking part in the Towards the Olympics project."

During the trip, Fergus excelled in Tai Chi, a traditional form of exercise in China.
