Assault, knife and ammo charges Swaffham cop sent for trial
A SWAFFHAM-based policeman charged with a string of weapons, harassment and assault offences has had his case sent to crown court.
Sergeant Mark Murphy, based at the Swaffham road-policing unit, has denied assaulting his former partner Georgina Vyse in Downham on March 1, and harassment causing her fear of violence between February 1 and March 1.
He also denies carrying a knife in Downham on March 1, possessing ammunition for a firearm without a certificate on March 1, and failing to provide a breath specimen on March 20.
He appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday when he faced an additional charge of drink-driving near Downham on March 1, which he also denied.
Mr Murphy, formerly of Downham and now living at 12 Granary Close, Lingwood, near Norwich, was released on conditional bail to appear at Norwich Crown Court on Wednesday, June 25.
He will appear at magistrates later on the same day for proceedings relating to the drink-driving offence.
