LUCKY youngsters in Beachamwell are having even more fun during the school summer holidays thanks to a new play area that has been provided through Big Lottery funding.
Breckland Council announced earlier this year that its bid for £238,000 Big Lottery funding had been successful and Beachamwell is the first of six villages in the district that will benefit from new or revamped plays areas over the next 12 months.
Previously there was no play provision in the village so the setting up of the swings, slide, climbing tower, 'talkie tubes', obstacle course and picnic area on land behind the village hall has been especially welcomed by parents.
Villagers were given the chance to get involved in the £24,029 development and have had a say in the equipment that has been provided.
Beachamwell resident Caroline Sanderson, a leading light in getting the new facility, said: "We are thrilled that this play area has truly brought the whole community together. We are so grateful to Breckland Council and the Big Lottery for their support."
The village's oldest resident, 95-year-old Ruth Rix, will officially open the play area during Beachamwell's Fun Day on Sunday, September 7, at noon.
A Breckland Council spokesman said: "All are welcome to come along and join in the fun."
Claire Bowes, Breckland's executive support member for sustainable communities, said: "Winning the Big Lottery funding was fantastic, but actually seeing children and parents using and enjoying the new facilities is even better.
"Our research had identified a real shortage of play facilities for young children, and this new play area in Beachamwell is part of a plan to create accessible play opportunities that challenge, motivate and stimulate children living in and visiting the Breckland area."
The play areas are being set up as part of the Breckland Play Strategy, developed by Breckland Council with the Breckland Partnership.
As well as being exciting and adventurous, they are designed to offer clean and safe environments for a wide range of ages.
