NECTON Parish Council has co-opted three new councillors to make eight members, one short of its full number.
The newcomers are Carol Porter, of School Road, Holme Hale, and Denise Axham and Richard Walsh, both of Wynfields, Necton.

Mrs Porter (pictured left) moved to the area with her husband, Nigel, five years ago from Beckenham in Kent, where they jointly managed a pub for 23 years.

"During the last 11 of those years, I also worked as a full-time principal finance officer in local government," she said.

For the past two years, she has worked part-time in Necton Post Office.

Mr Walsh was co-opted onto the council at the July 7 meeting, but Ms Axham was unable to attend because of another engagement.

The council has agreed to hold a public meeting, immediately before the next parish council meeting, so people can express their views on Breckland Council's Local Development Framework plans for Necton.

Parish council chairman Frank Woodward said the LDF affected how the village might develop, including land within and outside its parish boundary, so it was important that villagers had their say on its growth and building works.

The public meeting will be on Monday, August 4, at Necton Rural Community Centre in Tuns Road at 7pm, to be followed by the parish council meeting at 8pm.

Following a meeting of its A47 junction improvement working party, the council has written to various organisations to get population, traffic flow and previous A47 improvement information for the next working party meeting in early August.

Last week's council meeting was told that, so far, 17 people have shown interest in obtaining an allotment in the village and a working party is to be formed to try to identify suitable sites.

A working party will look at drainage and sewerage systems in Necton and suggest to Anglian Water on how to improve it and hopefully reduce the risk of flooding. One parish councillor and two residents volunteered for the group.

Three people have volunteered to take part in a speed watch scheme to monitor traffic through Necton.

After discussion, the council agreed to continue the current street light maintenance contract.
