Swaffham: Fund-raising sponsored silence

A HUSH was in the air at Swaffham Junior School's main hall last week when 12 members of the Swaffham Rainbows stayed silent for 21 minutes to raise money.
The girls, aged five to seven, chose a sponsored silence as their way of marking the 21st anniversary of the Rainbows, the youngest members of the Girl Guides movement.
Tracey Clements, guider in charge of the Swaffham Rainbows, said: "They were all quite excited and had a mad run around for five minutes before starting the silence.
"It went really well and they managed to keep quiet by doing drawing and colouring-in to make the time go quicker. Each of them got a certificate and a mascot badge for doing it."
Mrs Clements is hopeful that enough sponsorship money has been raised for the Rainbows to go on a trip to the dinosaur park at Weston Longville.
