RETIRED engineer Colin Evans was installed as the new president of Swaffham Rotary Club at the recent handing over dinner in the town's George Hotel Pedlar Suite.
Mr Evans, who had been the club's treasurer for the past three years, was presented with the chain-of-office by his predecessor Mr Simon Thair.

He said his emphasis in the year ahead would be on helping the local community and trying to increase the club's membership from the current level of about 30.

Mr Evans appointed the new officers, Mr Steve Ward as president-elect, Mrs Dorothy Pulsford-Harris as vice-president, Mr Alan Henry as secretary and Mr Nigel Chambers as treasurer, and presented them with their jewels of office.

One of Mr Thair's last duties before stepping down was to present the Paul Harris Fellowship award to past president Neville Robinson for his services to the Rotary movement over almost 40 years. Mr Robinson was president in 1977-78.

Mr Evans joined the club when he moved to The Lodge in Eastgate Street, Shouldham, on retiring about six years ago.
