THESE days there's much more to a library than books.
Yes, there are books in large print and on tape at Swaffham Library, but that doesn't cover it all. There's language courses on tape, all manner of information services, recorded music and videos, not to mention a photocopier.
Last week I said you can use any of the library's computers for free and told about the course on Monday, May 19, at 10am, to teach you how to shop online.
What I didn't say was that it is also going to run another course that afternoon, from 2pm to 4pm. This one is not for complete Internet beginners and will tell you how to use ancestrylibrary.com (phone 01760 721513 to book a place).
If genealogy is your hobby then you'll know about the site ancestry.co.uk The trouble is that it costs money to access some of its features; ancestrylibrary.com is a "back door" into the ancestry site.
Nationally, libraries have a special form of membership of that site.
It gives you access to more than non-members have, allowing you to read all that is there. However, there is a catch. You can only get this extra access from your local library – so there's another reason to pop along to The Pightle and visit Swaffham Library.
Finally, it was good to hear that the Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning I mentioned a couple of weeks ago made £200. I'll be happy to mention other organisations' events too.
