Swaffham Town Council's new website is now on line (www.swaffhamtowncouncil.gov.uk).
Gone is the simple green-and-white colour scheme, replaced by a multi-coloured one of rather sombre muted tones. If you do visit the site the next thing you'll notice is a new, very full, menu system.
This is designed to allow much quicker access
to all parts of what is to become a much larger site. Now you see large buttons labelled Town Council, Community, Business and Visitors, as well as the inevitable Home and Contact options.
The first of these options leads to all kinds of official documents. Look under that item for the agendas and minutes of the council and various committees.
Under Community you find information intended for local residents. It's where you can find out about local groups, societies, and voluntary organisations that provide services in the area. Similarly the Business and Visitor sections each aim at the different kinds of people who might come to the site looking for information about the town and the surrounding area.
In an effort to make everything easy for anyone to find, many of the links on the menu system appear in more than one place.
I have found something new already. Maybe it was on the old site, but I never found it. I was unaware that we all have a chance to nominate "Honorary Citizens". The details are all under the Community option.
Overall, the site shows enormous promise. Promise because, when I looked, some pages displayed the message "Content Under Development". I have no complaint about that.
It's probably better to show what we should expect to see on the new site when it is fully developed rather than leave us all asking why they've spent our taxes on a new site when all we can see is a new colour scheme and a fancy menu. There is one change that I think should be made immediately.
The Quick Links on the top right corner of every page lack contrast.
I do wonder if the mayor is pleased with the site. I doubt it.
All the images on the home page are stretched sideways. Every lady I know would be horrified to see themselves 30 per cent wider than they are in real life.Tell me what you think of the new site. email swaffhamturbine@gmail.com
