PARKING of vehicles close to road junctions throughout Dersingham is causing growing concern.
Now the parish council has taken steps to address the problem by forming its own working party.

It aims to try to pinpoint the areas worst affected and will attempt to resolve the problem.

At the annual parish council meeting in mid-May chairman Tony Bubb announced that he would not be standing for re-election. Cllr Roy Johnston was appointed the new chairman and Cllr Keith Manship vice-chairman.

In the annual report from the communications committee, Cllr Bubb stated that the committee had again had a good year, but had been saddened by the death of Stella Caunt, who had helped to start and develop the parish magazine, Village Voice. He said that the 50th edition had been reached, and the magazine always has plenty of material for inclusion and that it was proving popular with advertisers.

Cllr John Houston provided a report from the recreation ground committee, stating that the newly-formed committee had been busy with the play area and play equipment replacement programme. A meeting had been held at the recreation ground, and three pieces of play equipment would be removed as they could not be maintained or serviced any longer.

Prices are yet to be obtained for replacing these three items, and prior to purchasing any new equipment, the committee was attempting to ascertain which play equipment was being provided by the borough council for use at Sandringham View, as there was no wish to duplicate each area's play equipment.

Cllr Houston provided an update on plans to refurbish the area around the War Memorial. As the parish council would be looking for grants for these improvements, it was recommended that this would no longer be referred to as Malcolm's Garden.

As the War Memorial had been built with monies from public subscriptions, Cllr Houston stated that it had been agreed in order to aid grant applications for the work, public donations would be sought in the form of £5 pledge per square foot, and that names of contributors would be held on a certificate kept in the parish council office.

Sandringham and Dersingham branch of the Royal British Legion had already made donations, and pledged their support. Cllr Houston reminded parishioners that the War Memorial and its surroundings were used by many members of the community.

Cllr Keith Manship informed the meeting that two new bus shelters had been purchased: One for opposite Thaxter's and the other at the Lynn Road/Hunstanton Road bus stop near the recreation ground.

Cllr Manship also spoke about actions taken to resolve a number of complaints received about refuse bins not being returned to the correct places after emptying, by the borough council's contractors. The situation had improved slightly.
