FEARS that council tax could rise if there was a single unitary authority for Norfolk were expressed during St Germans Parish Council meeting.
Members were discussing the Boundary Committee's proposal for a single unitary authority for the county – and after spending some time looking at the issues involved they voted unanimously to keep things as they are.
It was felt that people are n
ot aware of the implications of the proposal, and councillors were also most concerned that council tax would rise again and everyday services which are taken for granted would be forfeited, such as weekly bin emptying.
The council also had to decide whether to adopt its red telephone box which is sited in Wiggenhall St Mary's. In the end, because of various implications and costs, it was agreed – sadly – not to adopt the box.
It was remarked that some of the lines marking where road work is to be carried out will soon disappear if the work is not carried out immediately.
Some concern was expressed with regard to employees at Cranes Sheds premises in Wiggenhall St Mary's. It was claimed that some of these people drive into work very fast with no regard for the speed limit and the clerk was asked to write to Cranes asking if they could remind their employees of the need to obey speed limits.
The route of the permissive footpath from Wiggenhall St Mary's has been agreed and is in the process of being finalised. This will be a great asset to the parish and one which has been longed for by local residents. The council expressed thanks to MLC for their work on this.

Unfortunately some of the information contained in it, supplied by the borough council is incorrect, it was claimed. However it will be worth the read in case of any flooding.
