Lynn’s Majestic Cinema will be screening the first of a series of operas and ballets tonight after the installation of a brand new satellite.
Puccini’s Turandot will be the first opera to be shown at the cinema - a love story set in China.
General manager Tom Cundy said: “This is a very considerable investment on our part to offer you something completely new and different. To be honest, I’m excited and a little nervous to see how everything will run as it’s something we’ve never done before.
“I know a number of other cinema’s that offer this and they tell me that once the word gets round that we offer these screenings there will be a very high demand for tickets.”
He added: “Through satellite streaming, we can also access many other types of events in the future. Personally, I have one eye on the World Cup in Brazil next year.”
The opera is about a prince who falls in love with a princess but all of her suitors must solve three riddles. When he succeeds, she refuses to marry him but must learn his name before dawn to be free.
The show starts at 7.15pm and tickets cost £15 for adults, and £12.50 for concessions.”
