An artist from Lynn is launching his new online store this weekend for fans of his digital artwork to order one-of-a-kind designs based on their Facebook or Instagram pictures.
Oliver Westrup, 27, of Tennyson Road, first discovered his talent and passion for digital art around two years ago when he was asked to create the artwork for his DJ friend’s mixtape.
He said: “I really like my music and I’m especially into hip-hop and R&B which have influenced my work.
“There’s a guy called Funny Tummy who produced the artwork for Rihanna’s album, he does a kind of digital abstract realism and his work is awesome.”
Using the pseudonym of Mister Westrup, Oliver creates digital art using his graphics tablet, usually starting with a sketch of the photograph before developing it using specialised computer programmes.
He added: “Everyone is obsessed with taking photos and posting them on Facebook and Instagram. This is an extension of that.
“It’s a relatively new technique and is frowned upon by more traditional artists because it’s something that can be reproduced on a large scale whereas many other artists tend to think of the original as the most valuable copy.
“It’s really good for being creative but can be finished a lot quicker than a painting which is good.”
Oliver has created digital likenesses of many musicians and singers, including those of Beyonce, Lana Del Ray, Pixie Lott, J Cole and Kanye West.
But he is now looking to get away from this type of work by creating images for local businesses, musicians or even family portraits.
He said: “I am currently working on an image for Megan Stewart, one of the Flux Babes.”
He launched his new website two weeks ago and tomorrow he will launch the online store through customers will be able to submit pictures to be drawn up into their own custom-made artwork.
These will be on sale for £25 thanks to an introductory offer that is only available until Sunday, when the price will return to £40.
