Earlier this month, a Lynn bar celebrated a successful start to a new live music night organised to showcase a range of local talent to an audience of all ages.
Dr Thirsty’s, in Norfolk Street, will host the gig nights on alternate Sundays, which organisers hope will give up and coming bands the exposure they need while adding to the town’s already rich music scene.
Assistant manager Shannon Durrant has organised the nights to appeal to all tastes in music.
He said: “The first night was loosely-themed acoustically with ska reggae act Captain Black No Stars headlining.
“It went off with a hit and packed the venue which we were really pleased with. We were also really happy with the mix of ages, it was brilliant to see young people mixing happily with the usual crowd associated with live music in Lynn.
“We are very keen to foster this mixed age interest in music and nurture an environment that allows this.”
This Sunday will be the second Sunday Night REHAB, more of a metal affair with headliners The Projectionist, a hardcore metal quartet from Cambridgeshire who have just released their debut album Meat Parade.
Mr Durrant added: “Unlike more heavy gigs in the area we have selected a variety of acts from different sub-genres inside that spectrum.”
Also performing this Sunday will be Norwich-based band Then Comes Chaos, a metal band inspired by the likes of Lamb of God and Fear Factory, and There Are Ghosts, a new Cambridge band known for their intricate and haunting music.
“We have gone to great lengths to select acts from outside of the area bringing new music to gig-goers who might not be able to travel outside of the Lynn area.”
Alternate Sundays will each feature a different type of music to satisfy fans of all genres with free entry to all.
The third event is yet to be confirmed, but Mr Durrant hopes to bring an urban poetry and hip-hop night to the bar with acts from London, Norwich, Cambridge and Lynn.
He said: “We’re hoping again to bring a new twist to the music scene and give people of all ages a taste of live, new, exciting music.”
