Pupils from Lynn Academy of Dancing refused to let the floods stop them from raising more than £4,000 for two charities by performing in a special 25th anniversary show.

The show, Be Dazzled, was created by principal Karen Waite to raise money for CLIC Sargent and the breast cancer unit at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital after both she and her daughter had treatment for cancer there.

It was staged at Lynn Arts Centre, in King Street, and Miss Waite said: “It went really well and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, we all had a really good time.

“On the Thursday night we had to evacuate 200 students in half an hour on the advice of the police, but we made up for it by holding an extra show on the Saturday night.”

Former-EastEnder John Partridge, best known for playing Christian in the soap, was unable to join the cast of the show for a short performance on the final night after rehearsals were rescheduled, but he sent a short video message to congratulate the dancers and wish them well.

More than 1,000 people turned out to watch the show over four nights and a total of £700 was collected in buckets throughout the performances. Miss Waite said: “At the end of every show it is always very emotional because so many people are so kind and so generous.

“I think we’ve raised more through this show than ever before.”

She presented the cheques to breast care specialist nurse, Angela Holford, from Lynn’s hospital, at the end of the last performance on the final night.

Miss Waite said: “It’s nice to know that the money raised for the breast cancer unit is going locally and will be helping people in Lynn rather than nationally.”

The dancers will now begin preparations for their next show, which will take place in April.
