Lynn’s Vancouver Quarter is set to host another special Chinese New Year celebration featuring a performance by one of the premier Lion Dance troupes in the country.

On Friday, January 31, the centre will once again host Jim Uglow and Hung Kuen Lion Dance Team in celebration of Year of the Horse with a traditional lion dance.

Lion Dancing is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture, in which performers mimic a lion’s movements in a lion costume.

The Lion Dance has a long history and brings good luck for the year ahead. The performance will take place on Baxter’s Plain, opposite Argos, in Lynn town centre at 11am.

Abbie Panks, manager of the Vancouver Quarter, told the Lynn News: “We had a fantastic morning last year with around 200 children from schools in the town and the Hung Kuen team.

“They always provide a great atmosphere and we welcome everyone who would like to come and watch the performance with us.”
