Six months into their 2014 season, and members of FADLOS and FADLOS Kidz show no sign of slowing down with the move to become a charity and open auditions for their next production.

Fakenham and District Light Operatic Society will be stepping back from the stage to do some well-needed fundraising at the Pirate Festival in Wells-next-the-Sea on Sunday, September 14.

After the huge sell-out performance of Les Miserables School Edition, the group held its annual general meeting, where members made the decision to bring the society up-to-date by becoming a charity.

Publicity officer Roy Ferris said: “The future for this society is looking firm and definite with more grant applications in and a new working relationship with North Norfolk District Council, the members and committee will continue to strive to produce top class performances.”

The production also prompted a new audition process that will enable all youngsters aged seven to 13 years old to audition for parts in the upcoming shows without previously being a member of FADLOS Kidz.

Open auditions for Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp will be held on Monday, September 1, from 6pm to 7.30pm at Fakenham Community Centre. The production will be staged in early December.

Roy added: “This is open to anyone who would like to have a chance at being part of one of the most popular pantomimes in Norfolk.

“Anyone over 14 is then invited to come along at 7.30pm to register interest to be in the chorus and to find out about the main parts, audition pieces and songs ready for the main auctions on Wednesday, September 3, from 7.30pm onwards at Fakenham Community Centre.”

FADLOS Kidz have also had an invitation to be in a choir for West End and soloist star Kerry Ellis at her concert in October in Stevenage. The choir will back Kerry, famous for playing the lead role of Elphaba in Wicked and for her recent tour with Brian May, in two songs.

Roy said: “This is a major and huge opportunity for the Kidz and is something they will remember forever.”

Later in the year, workshop auditions for Grease, which is due to be staged next May, and Phantom of the Opera will also be announced. Find out more at www.fadlos.co.uk
